Birthplace of Aleksandër Moisiu Under Restoration in Durrës

The Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation announced that restoration work is underway at the birthplace of renowned actor Aleksandër Moisiu. Authorities have declared the house a Category I Cultural Monument. The 2019 earthquake caused significant damage to the building.

Minister Blendi Gonxhja stated that UNOPS is carrying out the intervention with EU funding, under the EU4Culture program. The work includes restoring the façade, preserving original elements, and reconstructing damaged parts.

“Soon, Durrës will gain another tourist attraction that honors our cultural heritage,” the minister wrote on social media.

Aleksandër Moisiu spent his childhood between Trieste, Durrës, and Graz. At the age of 20, he settled in Vienna. On the German-speaking stage, he masterfully portrayed major roles from a wide range of European literature—from ancient Greek tragedies to modern works. Moisiu also entered the world of cinema. Between 1910 and 1935, he appeared in ten films, eight of which were silent.
