Book “Sali Vranishti: Captain who never closed his eyes even in bronze” promoted

The Permanent Commission of Arts at the Academy of Sciences of Albania, in cooperation with the Institute of History, presented the book “Sali Vranishti, the Captain Who Never Closed His Eyes Even in Bronze” by Arben Saliu, the grandson of the national hero.
Academician Hamit Kaba described Sali Vranishti as an important historical figure. He stressed that the people regard him as a legendary and almost mythical figure.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the Academy, Vasil Tole, highlighted the book’s value as a record of Vranishti’s life and patriotic activity. He portrayed Vranishti as a “man of song.” He also noted that folk songs and stories closely reflect his life and national contribution. According to Tole, the people have honored him with authentic titles beyond formal classifications.
Furthermore, Tole emphasized that folk songs preserve the memory of outstanding figures. In this context, songs about Sali Vranishti stand as a lasting monument to his legacy.
Academician Shaban Sinani described the book as “polyphonic.” He said it revisits Albanian thought about Vranishti at a time when many historical values face scrutiny.
He added that Vranishti, a key leader in the Vlora War and a central figure of that resistance, has endured this test. Sinani also noted that few historical figures in Albania or the Balkans have been honored with songs during their lifetime.
In addition, scholars Hamit Kaba, Luan Rama, and Associate Professor Mareglen Kasmi discussed Vranishti’s role. They referred to historical documents and described him as a symbol of national memory, especially for his stance against the Ottomans and his activity during the period of Independence.
Finally, author Arben Saliu thanked the Academy’s leadership, family friends, and mentors. He underlined both the difficulty and importance of documenting his grandfather’s life. Through testimonies and photographs, the book aims to preserve historical and spiritual memory for future generations.
