On April 5, 1873, Hafiz Ali Korca was born in Korca. This colossus of philosophical thought entered the constellation of renaissance by designing the 36-letter alphabet that is still used today. He wanted to have: a free and independent Albania. As the commander of Devolli’s company, in 1901, he scientifically argued in the congress of Dibra, Manastir and Elbasan, to protect the Albanian letters.

On April 5, 1885, the patriot and poet Hilë Mosi was born in Shkodra. He published his first poems when he was a student. We find them on the pages of the magazine “Albania” under the pseudonym Sokoli or Zog Sokoli. In 1913, he collected all the patriotic songs and published them in the collection “Zani i atdheut”. Hilë Mosi has left a very rich literary and journalistic legacy.

On April 5, 1939, the heir to the Albanian royal throne, Leka Zogu, was born. You left Albania as a baby and the right was denied to him to return until the years of democracy. Leka Zogu first set foot in Tirana in November 1993. He finally returned, together with his family, to live in Albania in June 2002. He passed away on November 30, 2011, at the age of 72 in Tirana, after an arterial fibrillation.

On April 5, 1954 Father Karl Serreqi died in Burrel prison. He was born in Shkodra, on February 2, 1911. He completed high school at the Franciscans, and theology in Bresha (Italy). He was ordained a priest and celebrated his First Mass on June 29, 1936. On October 9, 1946, he was imprisoned at the beginning in Shen Gjergj in Dukagjin and later on in Shkodra. He was sentenced to be hung on January 18, 1947 and after he was sentenced, he said “I am glad to die for Christ”. The security assembly sentenced him because he refused to tell what he had said to Lush Martini in confession who was against the communist regime. While awaiting execution, his sentence was changed to life imprisonment on February 24, 1947. First, they sent him to the notorious labor prison in Orman Pojan in Korca. Later on, he was transferred to the camp in Vllashuk in Berat and next to Bede. Finally, he ended up in the terrible prison of Burrel, where he died on April 4, 1954 due to a heart attack. He was buried in the cemetery of the Burrel prison, but without any sign of where his corps could be found.
