Defense minister Vengu: Albania to join Gaza Stabilization Force under allied leadership

TIRANA, February 25 – Albania will take part in the International Stabilization Force in Gaza under the mandate of the Peace Board, an international organization with legal personality established on February 19. The organization aims to promote stability, restore lawful governance, and ensure sustainable peace in conflict-affected territories.

Defense Minister Pirro Vengu said Albania will participate through an “umbrella” formula under the leadership of an allied country. During a press conference, he clarified that maps recently circulated in the media are not official documents and do not reflect formal decision-making. He added that discussions at staff level will determine the allied country that will assume the umbrella role.

Meanwhile, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Arben Kingji stated that Albania has expressed in principle its readiness to participate in the force for the Gaza Strip. He noted that the first phase foresees the involvement of officers in the headquarters to be established for this mission. However, Kingji said authorities have not yet determined the number of personnel and have not taken a final decision, as coordination with allies continues.

The Peace Board operates in accordance with international law. Its member states include the United States of America, Albania, Kosova, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Paraguay, Morocco, as well as other countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Albania holds founding member status.
