“Don Quixote” Returns to Albanian 100 Years After Noli’s Translation

In addition to the 100-year-old translation by Noli, ‘Don Quixote of La Mancha’ has now been translated into Albanian once again, this time by Bajram Karabolli. Karabolli was invited to the National Center for Books and Reading (NCBR) for a literary event focusing on “the ingenious nobleman.”
Miguel de Cervantes’ timeless novel, first published in 1605 (with the second part in 1615), remains one of the most widely read books in modern times. The figure of Don Quixote and his adventures are still referenced today to describe various phenomena.
According to NCBR, Karabolli’s new Albanian translation of ‘The Ingenious Nobleman Don Quixote of La Mancha’ offers a richer language and includes passages and entire sections that have been translated for the first time. This new version provides readers with a fresh approach to understanding and interpreting the novel.
During the literary event, the translator spoke to the young audience about the translation process, Cervantes’ life and work, the original text, other language translations, and previous Albanian versions by Noli and Zheji.
