Elbasan marks Summer Day with citizens and foreign tourists

TIRANA, March 14 – Elbasan once again became the center of Summer Day celebrations. Hundreds of citizens from Albanian-speaking areas and foreign tourists joined the festivities.
The city adopted spring decorations days before the holiday. Festive events include concerts, exhibitions, fairs, children’s activities, and sports events. Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images of the celebrations on social media.
The program began on March 9 with a series of public events. Meanwhile, the main celebration day features parades, concerts, and cultural activities across the city.
Carnivals in ‘Gensher’ Square opened the day with colorful parades. The handicraft fair continued with traditional products. Organizers also held events such as “Miss Summer Flower” and youth activities.
The celebrations will conclude with a large concert in ‘Gensher’ Square featuring several Albanian artists.
Summer Day remains one of Albania’s oldest pagan traditions. The celebration honors nature and the return of the sun after winter. While the festival once belonged mainly to Elbasan, it now stands as a national symbol of spring and renewal.
