EU enlargement chief highlights key decisions for Western Balkans

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos says the coming weeks and months will bring decisive moments for Western Balkan countries pursuing European Union membership.
Speaking ahead of the Berlin Process summit in Montenegro, Kos highlighted different priorities across the region. Montenegro must complete its accession negotiations, Serbia faces upcoming elections, and Albania needs to maintain its pace of EU integration.
For Kosova, she stressed the importance of respecting international law and the rule of law to advance its European path.
The Berlin Process brings regional leaders together to strengthen cooperation and advance European integration.
Kosova applied for EU membership in December 2022. It has not yet obtained candidate status or opened formal accession negotiations. Its European integration path also involves EU-mediated dialogue with Serbia to normalise relations.
