EU lifts measures on Kosova, Albania says move boosts regional stability

TIRANA, March 18 – Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha welcomed the European Union’s decision to lift all measures on Kosova. He said the move strengthens the country’s European path and supports stability across the region.

Hoxha described the step as delayed but important. He said the decision opens a new chapter for Kosova. It enables full and unhindered access to EU funds, assistance, and broader cooperation. He stressed that the move helps rebuild trust and reinforces the credibility of the EU integration process.

He added that progress on Kosova’s European path should continue without delay. He called for swift consideration of the country’s application for EU candidate status. He said this process would directly contribute to a more stable and secure Western Balkans. He also said it reaffirms the European perspective of all countries in the region.

A day earlier, the European Commission confirmed the removal of all financial measures on Kosova. Officials announced the decision during a debate on Kosova at the European Parliament. Commission representative Jiri Plecity said the EU has released all previously restricted financial assistance. He added that the Commission plans to fully re-engage with Kosovan institutions and support the country’s EU agenda.

Participants in the debate also expressed regret over a lost year for Kosova due to political deadlock throughout 2025.
