Eurovision Emotions: “Zjerm” Gains Popularity in Basel, Performers Share Their Journey with RTSH

In Basel, Switzerland, final preparations are underway for the Eurovision Song Contest, set to begin with its first semi-final on May 13. Albania will perform 12th, and has already completed its first stage rehearsal.
The Albanian entry “Zjerm” /Fire/ is drawing growing attention on social media and among Eurovision fan groups. Its performers, Kolë Laca and singer-songwriter Beatriçe Gjergji of “Shkodra Elektronike,” shared their emotions and experiences with RTSH ahead of the event.
“This song has really connected with foreign audiences,” said Laca. “They like the ethnic, tribal elements, like the çifteli, and the rhythm created with an electronic tarabuka”.
“These are words I’ve chosen from my soul. It’s unbelievable to see people who aren’t even Albanian singing them,” said Gjergji.
“Zjerm” has already reached close to 1 million views on Eurovision’s official YouTube channel and ranks among the most viewed entries.
After their first rehearsal, the artists received positive feedback. “Everyone there, the technical crew, complimented us sincerely,” said Laca. “The song works. People enjoy it”.
“There’s honesty, timing, and maybe even a little help from above,” Gjergji added.
Winners of the RTSH Song Festival, the duo also revealed their stage costumes, a mix of tradition and modernity, designed by Gjergji’s mother, Irina Dema, in collaboration with Tamel Clothes, capturing the essence of Albanian identity in a universal artistic style.
