The Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs, chaired by Igli Hasani, held its latest meeting and approved three bills.

The committee reviewed the bills in its capacity as a consultative body. The discussions focused first on the bill “On the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.”

Deputy Finance Minister Andi Memeti and representatives of the Bank of Albania attended the meeting. Memeti presented the proposed changes and new provisions.

The changes aim to strengthen Albania’s legal framework against money laundering and terrorist financing. They also seek to bring Albanian legislation closer to European and international standards.

Rapporteur Ervin Hoxha said the bill aims to strengthen the integrity, transparency and resilience of Albania’s financial and economic system.

Following the discussion, the committee approved the bill in principle, article by article and in its entirety.

The committee then reviewed a bill introducing changes and additions to Law No. 53/2025 on patents, utility models and supplementary protection certificates. MP Bora Muzhaqi initiated the bill.

Deputy Economy and Innovation Minister Martin Kajo attended the discussion. Muzhaqi said the proposed changes would update the legal framework for protecting patents, utility models and supplementary protection certificates.

She also said the changes would strengthen the industrial property protection system and bring it closer to European legislation.

The committee then reviewed another bill on changes and additions to Law No. 52/2025 on trademarks. Muzhaqi also initiated this bill.

According to Muzhaqi, the changes aim to update the legal framework for trademarks. They also seek to strengthen protection mechanisms in line with European developments and standards on industrial property.

After members raised questions and comments, the committee approved both industrial property bills in principle, article by article and in their entirety.
