Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali: Kosova remains top priority of Albania’s foreign policy

TIRANA, February 25 – Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali said Albania will intensify diplomatic efforts to expand recognition of Kosova.
During her official visit, Spiropali held a joint press conference with First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Glauk Konjufca. She stressed that the European Union enlargement policy should serve as a strong tool. She added that external actors must not influence the Western Balkans or create instability.
Spiropali said Kosova is the absolute priority of Albania’s foreign policy. She noted that Albania and Kosova strengthen a national axis and a natural alliance between two sovereign states. The countries share fraternal relations and a common vision for the future.
She said every step toward consolidating Kosova’s international standing is an investment in security, dignity, and regional stability. Spiropali praised Kosova’s commitment to reforms and institutional stability. She explained that lifting restrictive measures was necessary because the restrictions conflicted with these objectives.
On the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, Spiropali said Serbia must accept Kosova’s independence as essential for genuine normalization. She affirmed that Albania will continue to strongly support Kosova. She added that mutual recognition is the only sustainable basis for a healthy bilateral relationship and long-term regional stability.
Spiropali also addressed the trial in The Hague, emphasizing that the Kosova Liberation Army fought a just war. She said historical truth must guide justice and that the trial represents a responsibility toward history.
