Galeria FAB Honors Besim Tula with Retrospective Exhibition Featuring 30 Years of Artistic Evolution

Galeria FAB recently opened an exhibition in tribute to Besim Tula, one of the most significant figures in contemporary Albanian painting. Titled “Të ndjesh pamjen” (Feel the Vision), the exhibition marks the 75th anniversary of the artist’s birth, four years after his passing. It will be open to the public until January 31, 2025, at the Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

Curated by Era Tula, the exhibition presents a selection of works from the artist, featuring his 2015 publication “Të Ndjesh Pamjen” that reflects his vision on visual art aesthetics.

The exhibition begins with “Vdekja e Nënës” (Death of the Mother, 1990), which, according to critic Gëzim Qendro, symbolized the end of Socialist Realism and marked the entry of death into the previously untouched space of totalitarian art. Qendro considered it one of the final works of the 1980s, signaling the transition from Socialist Realism to the post-communist era.

The exhibition concludes with “Vrasësit me pagesë” (Contract Killers, 2020), Tula’s last exhibited piece.

Beyond these defining moments, the exhibition highlights the evolution of the artist over the past 30 years, showcasing his deepening exploration of human experience through changing subjects and expressive styles.
