Giro d’Italia 2025: Albania’s “House with Leaves” Museum Becomes Key Cultural Destination

The National Museum “House with Leaves” welcomed a group of Giro d’Italia participants, who were introduced to Albania’s dictatorial past.
This May, for the first time in history, the Giro d’Italia will start in Albania, turning it into a cycling hub for all of Europe. The “House with Leaves” Museum will be one of the cultural destinations recommended among the many activities surrounding the race.
Opened on May 23, 2017, “House with Leaves” is one of Albania’s most unique museums, narrating one of the darkest periods of the country’s history. The museum earned its name due to the climbing plant that once covered its facade. It is located in the heart of Tirana, in the building that served as the Central Headquarters for the Secret Service Surveillance from 1944 to 1991.
Designed in 9 sections, the museum consists of 31 rooms that are coherently interconnected, with each room serving a distinct function in telling the story.
