Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja visited Koshtan in Memaliaj to inspect restoration and conservation work at the Koshtan Tekke.

During the visit, Gonxhja highlighted the importance of preserving the historic site. He said the authorities are working to protect the Category I Cultural Monument and improve the surrounding area.

“Dervish Hetemi had repeatedly called for support. We have finally reached a point where we are taking serious action. We are not only saving this Category I monument, but also improving its surroundings and interior. Our goal is to give it greater museum value while ensuring its full functionality,” Gonxhja said.

Meanwhile, the minister described the project as an important investment in cultural heritage. He said the work demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting Albania’s historic and spiritual heritage.

The restoration aims to stop the building’s deterioration and preserve its original features. At the same time, workers are improving the interior spaces and the surrounding infrastructure.

In addition, Gonxhja announced plans to improve the road leading to the tekke. The project will make access easier for local residents, worshippers and tourists.

“We have a responsibility to preserve this heritage and pass it on to future generations. We fulfill that responsibility through concrete work,” Gonxhja said.

The intervention will therefore strengthen the site’s preservation while also improving its accessibility and potential as a cultural and tourism destination.
