Gonxhja: New archaeological museum near “Mother Teresa” square expands Tirana’s tourism offer

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports Blendi Gonxhja said today that the new Archaeological Museum near “Mother Teresa” Square is an important step for enriching Tirana’s cultural and tourism offer.
He added that Tirana, as a dynamic and important city, needs more museums, centers, and destinations. In this way, it can offer a richer and more diverse view of history and heritage.
Moreover, Gonxhja noted that visitors have so far faced a limited museum offer. He said most museums focus mainly on specific periods, such as the Cold War and the former regime.
In addition, he highlighted that the new museum will be part of the wider modernization and reconstruction of the National Historical Museum. As a result, it will create new opportunities for visitors.
Furthermore, the project includes an underground museum near “Mother Teresa” Square. It will focus on archaeological artifacts and findings. The Albanian Development Fund is implementing the project, using resources from the Institute of Archaeology and other available funds.
Finally, Gonxhja assured that the project will not affect the existing spaces used by the Institute of Archaeology or the Polytechnic University of Tirana.
