Kosova marks 18 years of independence, Albania’s President Begaj: KLA remains symbol of freedom

TIRANA, February 17 – Kosova celebrated the 18th anniversary of independence with a solemn ceremony in the Assembly of Kosova. During the event, President Bajram Begaj honored the sacrifice of the Kosovar people. He also underlined the decisive role of the KLA in the country’s liberation.
Begaj stated that Kosova’s history cannot be understood without its key leaders. Therefore, he mentioned Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi.
Furthermore, Begaj said NATO stopped ethnic cleansing and genocide in Kosova. As a result, people returned to their homes, land, and state. At the same time, he expressed support for those who face legal proceedings in The Hague.
In addition, Begaj said these leaders confront what he described as fabricated international charges. Nevertheless, he stressed that the KLA remains a symbol of freedom and national memory. He added that truth does not change and history does not shift.
Moreover, Begaj emphasized Albania’s position. Albania stands with Kosova. It supports its citizens and the KLA. It also represents Kosova in international forums.
Finally, Begaj noted that Kosova has strengthened its democratic institutions. However, he said the country now faces challenges related to dialogue and European integration. He added that Albania will continue to act as Kosova’s voice at every European table.
