Kosova war crimes process in The Hague a farce, says MP Shehu

TIRANA, February 13 – Tritan Shehu, MP from Albania’s Democratic Party, praised the Assembly initiative to adopt a joint declaration condemning the Serbian genocide in Kosova.

He co-drafted the declaration with Socialist Party MP and Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Igli Hasani.

Shehu said the initiative continues a long-standing Democratic Party effort to approve a resolution condemning crimes against humanity in Kosova.

He noted that Kosova cannot conduct such a process itself because it is not a United Nations member. Shehu added that the Assembly approved a significant document in response to the staged process in The Hague.

The MP explained that the court seeks to punish those who fought for freedom, justice, and independence. He said these individuals fought alongside NATO and Western countries against the Milosevic regime, which carried out genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Shehu highlighted that the war enabled Kosova’s independence. He said the conflict created conditions for new regional stability.

The MP warned that any attempt to tarnish the war contradicts truth, history, and regional stability. He added that such actions threaten European security and Albanian interests.

Shehu stressed that the Assembly must approve the declaration. He said it should denounce the Hague process as a farce that seeks to distort historical truth and target those who fought for freedom.

He concluded that the Assembly has a duty to adopt this declaration on behalf of the Albanian people.
