Kosovo Opera Makes Debut at TKOB with “Goca e Kaçanikut” Premiere

Last night, the Albanian opera “Goca e Kaçanikut” was revived on stage at the National Theater of Opera and Ballet (TKOB) in Tirana. Originally premiered in 1979, the opera, composed by Rauf Dhomi, was produced by the Kosovo Opera with the participation of Albanian artists from both within and outside of the Albanian territories.
Directed by Nikolin Gurakuqi, “Goca e Kaçanikut” recently premiered in Kosovo and was brought to TKOB as a tribute to the Independence Day celebrations. This marked the first time the Kosovo Opera performed at TKOB, presenting a Kosovar opera.
For bass Hektor Leka, who portrayed the iconic figure of the elder resembling the legendary hero Adem Jashari, it was also his first performance at TKOB after a long career in Trieste.
“Goca e Kaçanikut” is a tale of love, courage, and freedom, infused with a folkloric spirit. National symbols, omnipresent throughout the performance, enriched the show, which received an enthusiastic standing ovation from the audience.
