“Mediterranea” Exhibition Opens at GOCAT in Tirana

The exhibition “Mediterranea” was opened at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Tirana (GOCAT), with notable attendees including the Ambassador of Italy, Marco Alberti, and the Director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Alessandro Ruggera.
The exhibition features images captured using the most advanced space technology developed by the Italian and European Space Agencies, as well as Telespazio/e-Geos. Visitors can experience extraordinary images alongside maps and ancient works of art, creating a synthesis of culture, art, and science, bridging the past and present.
According to Alessandro Ruggera, the opportunity to present “Mediterranea” in Tirana arose from the declaration of the Albanian capital as the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue for 2025. In response, the Italian Institute of Culture chose to showcase an exhibition that tells the story of the sea, where the histories of peoples, cultures, and civilizations intertwine.
Ruggera sees the exhibition as an opportunity to reflect on the future of the Mediterranean, with hopes that it will continue to be a space for exchange, collaboration, and peace.
“Mediterranea” is an inclusive exhibition that narrates the history, beauty, and challenges of the Mediterranean, offering a journey between the past and future, where modern satellite images are interwoven with ancient maps, sounds, and emotional installations.
