Permanent History Committee Discusses Research Strategy and Activities for 2025

The Permanent History Committee met at the Academy of Sciences to discuss the draft strategy for scientific research at the Institute of History and the planned activities for 2025.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Paskal Milo, Chairman of the Committee, Acad. Marenglen Verli, Prof. Kaliopi Naska, Prof. Bernard Zotaj, Prof. Redion Luli, Prof. Andi Rëmbeci, Prof. Petrit Nathanaili, Prof. Ferid Hudhri, Prof. Ermal Baze, and Prof. Arben Cici.

Prof. Paskal Milo stressed the importance of discussing the strategy, calling it a crucial step for advancing scientific research. He proposed that the document be reviewed in advance so the strategy can be finalized after consideration by the Scientific Council. The document would then be distributed for further feedback, with the next meeting scheduled for between January 10 and 15, 2024.

He also mentioned that the Academy of Sciences (ASHSH) would adopt a unified strategy for all institutes, with feedback compiled into a document to be sent to the government. Prof. Milo concluded by emphasizing that the opinions and proposals should reflect the consensus of the majority.

The committee also reviewed potential activities for the 2025 work plan, including conferences and scientific roundtables.

Prof. Ferid Hudhri suggested organizing a seminar on controversial topics, not just from a historical perspective, but also from the angle of historiography, to encourage a more vibrant intellectual historiographical environment.

Prof. Hamit Kaba highlighted the need for better collaboration and coordination between the committee members and the Institute of History to strengthen relationships and enhance their impact in the scientific community.

Prof. Marenglen Verli proposed that, after reviewing the suggestions, the committee should prioritize the activities, with ASHSH engaging specialists for specific events. Prof. Bernard Zotaj emphasized that, as a scientific institution, ASHSH should provide clear conclusions on certain historical events. Lastly, Prof. Arben Cici raised concerns about the history curriculum in secondary schools and suggested organizing a roundtable to address this topic.
