PM Rama: Albania seeks stronger economic partnership with Turkey, EU membership remains priority

TIRANA, March 12 – Prime Minister Edi Rama discussed Albania’s relations with Türkiye, regional developments, and the European integration process in an interview with Turkish media outlet Türkiye Today.
Rama said economic cooperation between Albania and Turkey should expand. He noted that the combined value of Turkish football clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce exceeds the current trade volume between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Rama described President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a close friend and direct leader. He also rejected claims that Türkiye pursues neo-Ottoman ambitions in the region.
The prime minister also addressed regional tensions. He said accusations by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about a military alliance involving Albania, Kosova, and Croatia were unfounded. Rama added that Albania continues to support the independence of Kosova.
Regarding European integration, Rama stated that Albania aims to join the European Union by 2030. He added that the country sees the process as a path to institutional reform and improved governance, and noted that Albania has no alternative plan to EU membership.
