PM Rama at Peace Board supports former KLA Leaders and urges President Trump to act against future injustice

TIRANA, February 19 – Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke at the Peace Board. He addressed the situation of Hashim Thaçi and others in The Hague. He highlighted the 45-year prison sentence requested against them.
Rama mentioned that Thaçi has spent six years in pretrial detention. He criticized the Special Court in The Hague. He said the court operates with support from several democratic countries. Some of these countries participated in the Peace Board meeting. Rama added that this type of international justice should bring shame.
The Prime Minister recalled the leadership of President Donald Trump during his first term. He said Trump brought Kosova and Serbia closer than ever to a final peace agreement. Rama noted that the President of Kosova faced a brutal travel ban preventing him from signing that agreement at the White House. Rama explained that the same prosecutor later pursued President Trump. This action made the prosecutor widely known.
Rama said the President of Kosova has now spent six years in pretrial detention. He emphasized that the Special Court failed to follow democratic justice standards at every stage. Rama referred to a prosecutor last week who requested 45 years of imprisonment. He said this request caused a wave of humiliation across a peace-loving country.
The Prime Minister directly addressed President Trump. He said only a few months separate a man who rose from resistance to ethnic cleansing from becoming a peacemaker. Rama warned that the court could produce a destructive outcome. He urged Trump to act to prevent very bad events from happening again.
Rama concluded by thanking President Trump for including Albania in the initiative. He highlighted Albania’s close relations with Israel and Arab countries. He said Albania hopes to add value to the Peace Board’s extraordinary vision.
