PM Rama in Jerusalem: Albania unwavering against antisemitism, supports Trump peace plan for Gaza

TIRANA, January 26 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania continues to support all international peace efforts. He included the peace plan for Gaza proposed by United States President Donald Trump.
In addition, Rama said Albania is ready to contribute to an international force aimed at stabilising Gaza.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Rama highlighted the strong relationship between Albania and Israel. He said the bond rests on a deep friendship between the two peoples.
Turning to history, Rama recalled that Jews fleeing persecution found refuge in Albania on several occasions. He stressed that Albania’s protection of Jews during the Holocaust remains a unique historical legacy.
According to Rama, this legacy reflects the moral courage of previous generations. He said the country must preserve it and pass it on to future generations.
On this basis, Rama underlined the government’s commitment to honouring that heritage. He said Albania maintains a clear and unchanged stance against antisemitism at home and abroad.
Shifting to the situation in Gaza, Rama addressed public reactions in Albania. He said Albanians showed solidarity with the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
At the same time, he stressed that this solidarity did not turn into hatred against Israel. He added that Albanians did not target Jewish visitors or residents.
Rama contrasted this behaviour with developments elsewhere in Europe. There, he said, antisemitism has re-emerged as a deeply troubling phenomenon.
Expanding on Albania’s position, Rama reaffirmed that the country stands firmly against antisemitism. He added that Albania holds the same firm stance against Islamophobia.
He stressed that Albania rejects hatred and discrimination in thought, action, and international relations.
Rama also referred to his visit the previous day to the Nova Site. He described the visit as deeply disturbing.
Nevertheless, he said he felt moral clarity knowing Albania stood by the hostages and their families. He added that Albania clearly opposed the perpetrators of violence in Gaza.
According to Rama, their actions have caused immense suffering for Israelis. He said they have also inflicted long-term harm on Palestinians.
In conclusion, Rama said Albania feels honoured to join the Peace Board established by President Trump. He described the invitation as both recognition and moral responsibility.
