PM Rama: No obstacle on Albania’s unstoppable path to full EU membership

TIRANA, March 13 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said during a press conference that Albania faces no obstacle on its unstoppable path to full European Union membership.
Referring to yesterday’s parliamentary vote on the immunity of MP Belinda Balluku, Rama explained that SPAK’s request did not meet the minimum conditions for consideration.
He added that attempts to link the refusal to other reasons or to portray it as a fact that could block Albania’s EU path, hinder justice reform, or obstruct independent judicial activity are misleading.
Rama said such attempts reflect a daily pattern aimed at slowing Albania’s progress and halting the rapid steps in the negotiation process.
He emphasized that the case provides material for critics to exaggerate and fuel opposition against the government and the ruling majority.
Rama confirmed that Albania will continue its course on judicial independence and the real fight against corruption.
He clarified that the issue does not involve corruption, as the prosecutor did not raise a corruption charge. He encouraged the prosecution to investigate all leads where corruption might emerge freely, without obstacles.
Rama concluded that so far, the case does not involve corruption, but authorities will monitor it closely.
