Rama: Security and Defense Partnership, a Constant in Our Relationship with EU

Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted the importance of the security and defense partnership with the European Union, noting that it will remain a constant element in Albania’s relationship with the EU ahead of membership. Rama emphasized that Albania’s alignment with EU foreign policy will continue, and that the dialogue on this partnership will be ongoing until Albania becomes an EU member.
Rama mentioned that security has become increasingly central in both daily life and EU politics, stressing that the support for the EU is at its highest level ever since 1983, as shown by a recent survey. He noted that Europeans today recognize that war is a real threat, and not a distant event, and that Albania is part of this effort.
He also pointed out that the security partnership, signed in December, marks the beginning of further cooperation between Albania and the EU. Rama emphasized the necessity of closing membership negotiations by 2027, expressing appreciation for EU High Representative Kaja Kallas’ unwavering support for Albania’s EU integration.
“The partnership on security and defense that we signed together last December is a step that will be followed by others,” Rama said, confirming that Albania will continue to play an active role in EU-related efforts.
Rama’s gratitude for EU High Representative Kaja Kallas’ support highlights the continued partnership and shared vision for a unified, secure Europe.
