The film The Return of the Dead Army, directed by Dhimitër Anagnosti and based on Ismail Kadare’s novel The General of the Dead Army, has been restored and is now available to the public in 4K resolution. Premiering in 1989, this film has undergone digital restoration as part of a tribute to Albania’s liberation anniversary.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the restoration on social media, encouraging the public to experience the film in its newly restored form. The project was made possible by the Central State Film Archive in collaboration with Augustus Color laboratory in Rome and the digitalization studio at AQSHF.

The film’s music was composed by Gjon Simoni, with cinematography by Bardhyl Martiniani and editing by Mimoza Nano. Key roles were played by actors Bujar Lako, Guljelm Radoja, Roza Anagnosti, and others. The restoration of such films is of great importance, as highlighted by various directors.

The Central State Film Archive began the restoration of film works in 2012, collaborating with foreign studios. Other films by Dhimitër Anagnosti, including Lulëkuqe mbi Mure (2023) and Përrallë nga e Kalua (1987), have also been restored.
