The European Parliament rapporteur for Albania, Andreas Schieder, praised Albania for making major progress in EU integration negotiations, while emphasizing the need to fully implement legislation.

During a press conference, Schieder said that if the European Commission’s assessment goes well, Albania could start closing chapters in the spring and continue to be a leader in the EU enlargement process.

“But this is not just about passing legislation,” he added. “The goal of legislation is to align Albania with European standards in practice and ensure better harmonization between local laws and EU regulations.”

Schieder also highlighted Albania’s strong commitment to reforms, particularly in the fight against organized crime.

“Ten years ago, Albania took the unprecedented step of vetting judges. This reform has significantly changed public perception,” he said.
