TIRANA, February 13 – Corridor 8, linking Durrës on the Adriatic Sea to the Black Sea, is a major Pan-European transport route. NATO included it in its critical military infrastructure, highlighting its importance for collective defense.

Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi reacted to the NATO decision, announced during the Defense Ministers’ meeting in Brussels. Defense Minister Pirro Vengu also attended the session.

Peleshi described the corridor’s inclusion as a strategic milestone. He said it positions Albania at the center of Euro-Atlantic security planning.

He added that this development reinforces Albania’s role as a regional bridge. He stressed that long-term investments in security and infrastructure consolidate the country as a key NATO partner.

Peleshi explained that the corridor links Albania to a strategic node within NATO’s regional plans. He noted that the Alliance will focus on this infrastructure in the coming years.

Preparations have already started for the NATO Summit in Tirana in 2027. Peleshi mentioned active cooperation with Turkey and the NATO Secretariat in Brussels as part of these efforts.
