Tirana Hosts Pivotal Congress for Consolidating the New Albanian State

From December 1918 to January 1920, a series of congresses and meetings were held with the aim of rebuilding Albania after the consequences of World War I. The first of these was the Congress of Tirana, held on December 19, 1918.
The Congress was part of a broader effort to organize a nationwide congress to consolidate the newly formed Albanian state. This led to the organization of the Congress of Lushnja from January 28-31, 1920.
Rauf Fico, the former subprefect, and Abdi Toptani, one of the signatories of Albania’s independence, played a significant role in organizing the Congress of Tirana.
In a meeting held in Rauf Fico’s office on December 7, 1918, attended by Sotir Peçi, Abdyl Ypi, Ismail Ndroqi, Mytesim Këlliçi, Sinan Hoxha, Myslim Beshiri, and Rauf Fico, it was decided to invite the regions of Elbasan, Peqin, Kavajë, Durrës, Mat, and Dibër to discuss the union of these areas.
