Trump convenes Peace Board on February 19, Prime Minister Rama heads to the U.S.

TIRANA, February 18 – Prime Minister Edi Rama traveled to the United States ahead of the Peace Board meeting in Washington on February 19. He attended at the invitation of President Donald Trump.
Rama said last month that he received the invitation to join the new international organization, which aims to manage Gaza and promote peace in the region. He described Albania’s participation as a moment of pride and noted that the country, as a founding member, would not contribute financially to membership or permanent status.
He emphasized that the Peace Board would not be a forum for statements, but a mechanism focused on decision-making and concrete responsibilities at the global level.
Trump announced that the first official meeting of the board would take place on February 19. He said member states had pledged over 5 billion dollars for humanitarian efforts and Gaza’s reconstruction. They had also deployed thousands of personnel in an international stabilization force and to support local police in securing peace for Gaza residents.
Trump added that the plan received unanimous approval from the UN Security Council last year and included the deployment of international forces to ensure stability. He described the Peace Board as set to become one of the most influential international organizations globally and said he was honored to serve as its chairman.
