“Underground Life Brought to Light”; Photographic Exhibition from Memaliaj Mine

Seimen Gjokoli, experiences deep emotions, while reflecting on a photograph from his past years working in the coal mine. He shares not only his portrait but also a significant part of his life and the city’s history.

“I came to Memaliaj in 1978, right after finishing university. It’s nostalgic to remember the large workforce of workers, managers, and engineers. Those who served here contributed extraordinary value to the Albanian economy,” said former miner Seimen Gjokoli.

The exhibition, opened during the “Memaliaj Calls Us” event, aims to showcase the underground life of the city to both local and international visitors.

“All materials are part of various archives and items donated by citizens,” said Edmond Sala, a museum representative.

Additionally, the Memaliaj Municipality has opened a museum dedicated to the life of miners. This museum, which continues to grow, has attracted many visitors, offering an in-depth view of the mine’s history and heritage.
