The agreement between the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (IKTK) and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) for the project ‘Inventory of Mosaics in Albania’ has been renewed for the second time.

Between 2013 and 2022, various sites, such as Butrint, the Churches of Via Egnatia, and Bylis, have already been the subject of joint studies and restorations.

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage announced that other mosaics remain to be studied, primarily in Butrint extra-muros, Saranda, Durrës, Korçë, and other locations, including the floors of medieval churches and potential new discoveries.

The objective of this agreement is the systematic study of Albania’s floors: mosaics, opus sectile, and tiles.

The project consists of four main components: conservation and restoration, documentation, training, and publication.
