A 3-meter-tall statue immortalizing our national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, arrived in Italy. Initiated by the “Hora e Skënderbeut” association, the statue is a gift from Albanian emigrants to the Arbëresh community. This news was announced by the Center for Arbëresh Studies and Publications.

This gift to the Arbëresh community is a gesture of gratitude for their contribution to preserving the Arbëresh language, culture, and traditions for more than five centuries.

The giant statue is the work of the Prishtina-based sculptor, Gëzim Muriqi. It will be placed in the square in front of the municipality in Hora e Arbëreshëve (Piana degli Albanesi) in Sicily. Its inauguration will take place on August 30, 2024, coinciding with the anniversary of the settlement’s founding, which dates back to 1488.

Many compatriots have expressed their desire to be part of this grand celebration.
